ExcitingBibleStudy materials are written from a Baptist doctrinal perspective and are compatible with the Baptist Faith and Message. Here are a few key points of what Baptists believe.
THE BIBLE is the inspired Word of God, truth without any mixture of error.
THERE IS ONE GOD who exists in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
PEOPLE are created in God's image, but are separated from God because of their sin.
JESUS CHRIST, the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin, llived a sinless life, died on the cross so our sins could be forgiven, arose from the dead so our lives could be eternal, and ascended into heaven so we could be indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
SALVATION is the unearned gift from God to any person who will repent (turn away from sin to God), believe (trust totally in Jesus for their forgiveness of sin and for eternal life) and commit to Jesus as the Lord of their life.
THE HOLY SPIRIT convicts unbelievers of sin and draws them to God, then permanently indwells each believer from the moment of salvation. He provides each believer with one or more spiritual gifts to use in building up the church, the Body of Christ.
THE CHURCH includes all believers of all ages, but finds its visible expression in the local church, which is a group of baptized believers in covenant relationship with one another, joined together for worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism.
BAPTISM is an individual's public profession of his or her faith in Christ. When the believer is immersed in water and brought up out of the water, it symbolizes three things: the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ; the future death, burial and resurrection of the believer; and the fact that the believer, at the moment of salvation, died to self but has been raised to walk in newness with Jesus Christ as Lord.
THE LORD'S SUPPER is a symbolic remembrance of the death of Jesus Christ, the bread symbolizing His body that was broken for us and the cup symbolizing His blood that was shed for us.
